OKWU Sweeps St. Mary - Eagles Still in First

The Oklahoma Wesleyan Eagles came away with a big road sweep against St. Mary on Wednesday night in Leavenworth, Kansas. 

On the women's side first - In game one, the Lady Eagles held on for a 66-64 victory. Bartlesville-native Lauren Richter blocked what would’ve been a game-tying shot at the buzzer.

With the game tied at 59, Coley Ickes scored five consecutive points to give OKWU the upper hand late in the game at, 64-59. The Lady Eagles found themselves playing catch-up for a bulk of the game. Amanda Hart kicked the offense into gear with 20 of her career high 23 points coming in the second half. OKWU is 13-7 in the year and 9-6 in Kansas Collegiate Athletic Conference play.

The top-ranked men’s team put the rout on the Spires from the beginning in the 87-62 win. The Eagles made their first four shots of the game and led 11-2 within two minutes of play. The lead would only increase from there. 

The OKWU lead stretched out to 42-23 by halftime. St. Mary pulled within 15 points early in the second half but the tough Eagles defense held them down. 

OKWU then went on a 17-3 run to put themselves up, 67-38. The Eagles had five players in double figures on the night. Josh Wilchcombe notched his 10th double-double of the season with 17 points and 11 rebounds. 

The Eagles move to 20-1 on the season and 14-1 in the KCAC. 

Both teams return to play with a home doubleheader on Saturday against Friends University.
