OKWU Wins Series At Bellevue

Oklahoma Wesleyan University Eagles baseball team moves to first place in the Midlands Collegiate Athletic Conference standings after taking three of four games at Bellevue over the weekend.  The Eagles beat the Bruins twice on Friday, got a split on Saturday dropping the first game 3-2 and coming back in the second game shutting out Bellevue 3-0.

In the first game, the Eagles led 2-0 after five and a half innings and never scored again.  The Bruins scored one run the sixth, a run in the seventh, and the winning run in the eighth.  CJ Gregory took the loss for the Eagles, which was his first loss this season.  In over seven innings of work, Gregory gave up three runs on six hits, walked three, and struck out four.  The Eagles only managed just four hits.  Austin Murphy, Will Price, Zair Koeiman, and Gunner Joyce each got a hit.

In the second game, the Eagles scored two of their three runs in the top of the fourth inning and shut out Bellevue to win the four-game series.  Aaron Garner got the win on the mound to improve his record to 6-0.  In seven innings of work, Garner gave up two hits, a walk, and a strikeout.  David Espinoza went 2 for 3 with a double while Avery Flores went 2 for 3 with a double and a RBI. Zair Koeiman and John Davenport each got a hit.

Bellevue is currently tied for second place in the MCAC with York College with a 11-5 conference record and 33-10 overall.  OKWU is now 37-8 overall and 16-4 in MCAC play.

Next up for OKWU is a trip to Oklahoma City on Tuesday as they will take on Mid America Christian University.
