Pawhuksa In The Playoffs

Pawhuksa's boy's basketball team has some momentum going into the 3A districts at Chelsea on Friday. The Huskies beat Hominy, 62-56, on senior night on Tuesday.

The win gives PHS a victory in their final regular season game of the year, and leaves the guys with a bit of swagger going into their first round district game on Friday against Chelsea.

Huskies boy's coach Monty Unruh gives his scouting report on Chelsea. Chelsea is 10-2, coming off a win against Foyil on Friday. Nowata was supposed to play Chelsea for the Ironmen's senior night on Tuesday, but the game was canceled because of the winter weather. Previous to Chelsea's win over Foyil, it had lost six straight.

Unruh says he doesn't expect Pawhuska (5-15) to run anything out its usual offensive and defensive scheme against Chelsea.

The Huskies' inconstancy has been the main issue this year. Unruh has been frustrated with the lack of level play. Pawhuksa took it to Nowata, one of the better teams on its schedule, losing to the Ironmen 75-66. Then the Huskies were promptly blown out against Newkirk, a sub .500 team, 62-40, earlier in February.

Win or lose against Chelsea, Pawhuksa will move on to regionals. Adair and Kellyville are the two teams opposite Pawhuksa and Chelsea in the bracket. Despite the fact that you can lose the first game, Unruh is paying specially attention to the game against Chelsea. He says it is almost impossible to make the state tournament if you lose the first game. If you win, things are much easier.
