Senior Spotlight - Bartlesville Baseball

Let’s take a look at another group of seniors throughout Northeast Oklahoma and Southeast Kansas, as high-schoolers in spring sports had their careers cut short with the cancelation of activities because of COVID-19.

Bartlesville High baseball had one of the smallest senior groups in the area.

The Bruins had only two seniors in 2020, Alan Covarrubias and Kurt Kauk.

Both were set to be major contributors in their final seasons with the program. Bartlesville had an up-and-down eight games to begin the year before the cancellation. BHS went 3-5. First-year head coach Cody Price talks about his two seniors.

Covarrubias was used as a district starting pitcher for the Bruins this past season. Kauk was set to be an everyday player in the Bruins lineup. He tallied three hits in the early parts of the year. Overall, Price says he was pleased with his first season at the helm of Bartlesville baseball, and says he wishes he could have seen what he had for a bit longer.

Despite the lack of experiencing a full season, Bartlesville will return a bulk of its talent for 2021.

The talent will include Jakob Hall, a senior-to-be next year. Hall had been one of the Bruins most promising players the past two years, but missed 2020 due to an injury
