Split Night at the UMAC

The Bartlesville boys and girls basketball teams split two contests with Union High School on Tuesday night at the UMAC.

The Lady Bruins beat Union, 42-33. Meanwhile the BHS boys fell in a valiant effort, 50-46

First on the girl's side, the Lady Bruins trailed early, as both team struggled with offense early. BHS led 8-5 at the end of the first, but trailed 15-14 at halftime as Jena' Williams kickstarted the Lady Bruin offense at the end of the first half.

In the third quarter, Bartlesville (2-1) found Lauren Richter for solid looks in the paint, while Erin Shoemaker, Trinity Parker and Williams all scored. BHS tallied 19 points in the third quarter, which was enough to pull away from the Lady Redskins (0-1)  and hold on for the nine-point win.

Williams and Shoemaker finished with 11 points. Richter added in 10.

On the boy's side, Bartlesville rallied from down 13 points early to take a one-point lead after an AJ Archambo three-pointer midway through the fourth quarter. However, every time BHS had a big shot, Union (1-0) would answer.

Bartlesville had the ball down two-points with 40 seconds remaining in the game, following a Redskin turnover, but the Bruins turned it over themselves on their ensuing possession. Union would put the win on ice at the free throw line.

The Bruins (2-1) struck first, but would fall behind quickly. Union led 23-10 after a 9-0 Redskin run late in the first quarter and early in the second.

Bartlesville's defense and three-point shooting would keep the Bruins in the ballgame. Archambo, Barron Tanner, Rhett Green, Jake Bilger, Tayo Dina and Jaylin Oliver all hit threes to help keep pace with a bigger Union front line.

Both Bartlesville teams next play in the Bixby Tournament on Thursday afternoon. The boys face East Central at 2:30, while the girls play Ponca City at 4:00. BIXBY BRACKETS
