Split Night for BHS at Bixby

It was a split night for the Bartlesville basketball teams at Bixby on Tuesday, with the girls winning and the boys losing a heartbreaker.

The Lady Bruins rebounded from a loss to Skiatook on Monday, beating the Bixby girls 56-27. Meanwhile the Bartlesville boys lost a game where they led throughout. Bixby blitzed the Bruins in three overtimes, winning 76-68.

On the girl’s side, BHS held Bixby to only two points throughout the majority of the first quarter. Bartlesville (5-5) led wire-to-wire and the game was never really in doubt.

Erin Shoemaker led the game in scoring. She got BHS started off offensively with early three’s. Shoemaker ended up making five three-pointers on the night. Avery Allen was the only other Lady Bruin in double-digits with 10

For the boy’s it was a disappointing night, as the Bruins led wire-to-wire but fell to the Spartans in the third overtime. Parker Moore hit a three-pointer with 1.1 seconds remaining in regulation to tie the game and force the first overtime. Bartlesville turned the ball over multiple times in the final minute, which led to the Bixby comeback.

Andrew Gronigan answered back with a three-pointer of his own in the second overtime with 5.8 seconds left. The wild shot tied the game and forced the third OT.

AJ Archambo had a good look at the basket on a pull up 8-foot jump shot as time expired in the first overtime that would have won the game for the Bruins at the buzzer. The shot was no good off the left side of the iron.

Barron Tanner led BHS with 22 points. He scored the Bruin’s first 14 points of the day. Tanner fouled out with 3:37 left in the first overtime on a questionable whistle.

Bixby outscored Bartlesville 8-0 in the third OT.

Both Bartlesville teams next host Sapulpa on Friday at 6:30 for the girls with the boys to follow on KWON – AM 1400 and FM 93.3.
