Oklahoma Wesleyan freshman point guard Derrick Talton Jr. was named Kansas Collegiate Athletic Conference Defensive Player of the Week on Wednesday. Talton Jr. recorded seven steals in the first three games of the month. He has totaled 10 steals on the season. Before the year, head coach Donnie Bostwick touted Talton Jr. as the only newcomer who would see significant minutes.

The Fort Worth-Native hasn’t had any trouble scoring the ball either. He is currently averaging nine points per game with three games in double-figures. Bostwick says that because Talton played very high level competition throughout high school his transition to the NAIA level has been easier.

The Eagles will be in action next on Saturday with a road trip to John Brown University to close out the non-conference season.
