Today in Sports History with some Oklahoma ties… It was on May 2, 2005 that the St. Louis Cardinals had their biggest ninth inning comeback in franchise history.

The Redbirds overcame a six-run deficit against the Cincinnati Reds. Trailing 9-3 into the ninth, the Cardinals won 10-9.

The Cardinals sent 12 batters to the plate and scored six runs on four singles, two walks, two home runs and an error.

Only one Oklahoma connection to that game, and he was on the Reds. Brian Shackleford played for Cincinnati in 2005. He was a relief pitcher with 37 appearances.

Shackelford was born in McAlester in 1976, and played his college baseball at OU.
