Today in Sports History with some Oklahoma ties… Happy 35th birthday on May 6 to current Oklahoma City Thunder point guard Chris Paul.

Paul has spent 15 seasons in the NBA with New Orleans, the LA Clippers, Houston and OKC. He is a 10-time All-Star and the 2005 NBA rookie of the year.

Paul was born and raised in Winston Salem, North Carolina, and attended Wake Forest. His No. 3 is retired with the Demon Deacons.

Not only is Paul’s current tenure with the Thunder a major Oklahoma tie, but Paul spend the first two years of his life in professional basketball living in Oklahoma City. He was the No. 4 overall pick in the 2005 NBA draft, going to New Orleans.

The Hornets played the majority of their home games in downtown Oklahoma City from 2005-2007, as New Orleans was recovering from Hurricane Katrina. Now playing with the Thunder, Paul says it is funny how things come full circle.

The Hornet's organization relocated the franchises headquarters back to New Orleans for the 2007-2008 NBA season. Just a year later in 2009, Oklahoma City got its first NBA team, as the Thunder relocated to OKC from Seattle.

Paul came to Oklahoma City for the second time via a trade this past offseason between the Thunder and the Houston Rockets when Russell Westbrook was moved.

Thunder games air in the Bartlesville-area on Sports Talk 1500 AM and 99.1 FM - KPGM.
