Trio Competing for Bartlesville QB Job

At Bartlesville High the next four weeks will be used to figure out who will be the team’s starting quarterback. Senior Noah Sunday was the starter in 2017, but junior Ben Winters and Sophomore Paxton Bradford were impressive in the spring and summer, enough for the coaching staff to give them an extended look.

Bruins first-year head coach Lee Blankenship was complimentary of all three gunslingers.

Sunday obviously stands out having thrown for over 1,400 yards and nine touchdowns as the primary starter in 2017.

All three quarterback candidates have been working with a new playbook. The offensive coaches are working on a complete overhaul in philosophy from last year as you would expect with a brand new staff. Offensive coordinator Cody McDaniel explains what Bartlesville is trying to do offensively.

Coach McDaniel has an extensive history with Blankenship. McDaniel played center while Blankenship played quarterback at East Central University during their college days. McDaniel has also served as assistant under Blankenship at Gore High School and Beggs High School.

Last year McDaniel’s high-flying offense led Beggs to the 3A state championship game.
