Wesleyan Christian Football Begins

There will be some high school football on Friday evening in Bartlesville.

The Wesleyan Christian Mustangs open up the year hosting Wright Christian. Wesleyan is trying to get back to the OCSAA playoffs for the second consecutive year. Wright Christian was the Mustangs opening game in 2014 as well.

Mustang head coach Nathan England talks about Wright Christian. Wesleyan lost to Wright Christian in a heartbreaker to start last year's season, committing six turnovers. England says that if the Mustangs play smart, he thinks it is a winnable game.

Even though it is Week 1, this is an important game for WCS. And it's not just because it is against another OCSAA opponent. Games like this are big for the Mustang's overall resume. WCS had been ranked as the three seed in the OCSAA playoffs throughout last year, until the final week when it dropped to four. England says if Wesleyan had beaten Wright Christian in week 1, it might have been a different story.

The WCS run game will be vital for the Mustangs this year, as it is for all eight-man football teams. England talks about specific guys who need to step up this year.

Wesleyan Christian hosts Wright Christian at 7:30 on Friday night in Bartlesville.

You can hear a preview of Wesleyan Christian's football game each week live on KWON AM 1400 and FM 93.3 at 8:20 on Tuesday mornings. Or you can listen to on on-demand on our Coach's Corner page.
