High school basketball in Northeast Oklahoma is just around the corner, with a few schools in our area tipping off the new season in just about a month.

Across Washington and Nowata Counties, the Northeast Valley Conference gets their season started in just under a month with Dewey going on the road to Oklahoma Union.

With an experienced bunch coming back to Dewey, head coach Lance Knight talked about things to build off of from last season.

The Bulldoggers finished 13-13 a season ago. They were eliminated in the regional consolation rounds last season.

On the other side for Oklahoma Union, the Cougars have a deep roster once again. Head coach Riley Duncan talked about developing his younger guys during the offseason.

OKU finished 13-14 last season and was also eliminated in the regional consolation rounds.

Lots of eyes will be back on Nowata this season, as the Ironmen won a conference championship a season ago, finishing 16-10 and one win away from the area playoffs. Head coach Derick Ott talked about his team's depth.

The Caney Valley Trojans, under head coach Tug Brinker, will be youthful once again but have a handful of returners this season. Caney Valley finished 6-19 last season and notched a win in the postseason. Brinker talked about a taller Trojan bunch this season.

We will have more on the high school basketball season as it approaches.
