Bartlesville High School is making a change in its football program.

BHS announced on Monday that Harry Wright has resigned his post after four seasons as head coach.

Bartlesville is coming off a 3-8 season where the Bruins lost in the first round of the 6A-II playoffs. Bartlesville fell to Piedmont this past Friday, 53-28 to end its season.

The change will mark the first time since after the 2021 season that the Bruins are looking for a new head coach.

In a statement, Bartlesville High Athletic and Activities Director Thad Dilbeck thanked Wright for his time in Bartlesville: “We appreciate all that Coach Wright has done for Bruin football and wish him luck in the future.”

Wright finishes his Bartlesville tenure at 16-30 with two playoff wins over four years.

The postseason victories came in Wright’s first two seasons, including a thrilling 36-30 overtime win at Lawton in 2022.

BHS made four appearances in the playoffs in Wright’s tenure, but three of those came only because of an expanded format in 6A-II starting in ’22.

Wright came to Bartlesville from Lonoke, Arkansas after a stint as defensive coordinator at Bentonville, West High School.

In his letter Wright stated, “I want to express my sincere appreciation for the opportunity to lead the Bartlesville football program. It has been an honor to work with our student-athletes, coaches, administrators, and the entire community. I’m grateful for the trust placed in me and for the support shown to both me and my family during my time here.”

Bartlesville Public Schools says the search for a new head coach has already begun.
