Congress to Thank Public Service Workers

James Lankford and John Fetterman have introduced a resolution to honor government workers during Public Service Recognition Week. The measure praises federal, state, and local employees, as well as uniformed service members for basically keeping the country from collapsing into a pile of unanswered emails and unguarded airports. Lawmakers are encouraging Americans to celebrate with “appropriate programs and activities,” which is Hill-speak for maybe don’t yell at a DMV employee this week.
Lankford highlighted that civil servants do, in fact, keep things running like supporting the military, caring for veterans, and making sure your flight doesn’t leave without you (or at least not because of them). Fetterman echoed the sentiment, noting that public servants contribute to the “greatest country in the world,” a phrase Congress dusts off whenever it needs a unifying closer. The resolution also reminds everyone that public service is a “noble calling,” which is a nice way of saying it’s a tough job that involves long hours, heavy scrutiny, and the occasional thank-you in the form of a resolution.
