2025 in Sports: OKWU Hoops Plays for National Title

As we continue to recap the top sports stories from 2025, we take a look back at the season that was for Oklahoma Wesleyan men's basketball.
Back in March, the Eagles ran the table in the NAIA national tournament and made just their second appearance ever in the national championship game. As a 7-seed in the tournament, OKWU took out two different 1-seeds and a 2-seed to keep their run alive.
One of those wins included a national semifinal win in Kansas City over the defending national champions, Freed-Hardeman University, on March 24. Dylan Philip led the way that night with 24 points, including this three-pointer to put the Eagles up by 14.
The Eagles fell in the title game to The College of Idaho the following night to finish as the national runner-up for the first time in program history. OKWU's appearance in the national championship game was their first since they won it all in 2009.
Looking back on the season, head coach Donnie Bostwick said everyone will remember the journey.
OKWU finished the season 28-8 overall.
