It was a fun day again at Hillcrest Country Club on Tuesday, as Bartlesville wrapped up its 2026 hosting of the 6A State Golf Tournaments, while the Bruins were the talk of day two.

Behind an outstanding outing from junior Jay Wasemiller Bartlesville surged into a third-place finish as a team, as Wasemiller finished as the State Runner Up, only one shot out of first.

Wasemiller posted a final round 64, which is a competitive course record at Hillcrest. The main highlight was a hole-in-one on No. 4. It was from a bit more than 200 yards out with a seven-wood.

BHS head coach Carl Holmes describes the scene.

After the ace Wasemiller posted six more birdies over the next 14 holes. He also had two bogeys.

It is his second hole-in-one of the spring, as Wasemiller had one earlier this season at Forest Ridge in Broken Arrow.

The 64 drew him within one shot of the eventual state champion, Grady Thompson out of Edmond Santa Fe. Thompson would stay mistake free down the stretch to win by the single stroke.

Holmes talks about Wasemiller’s day in total.

Jay was not the only highlight. BHS had four of its golfers in the top-35 individually. Hutson Coats finished at 19th. Carter Sauer wrapped up a 26th place finish. Damien Walker finished at 34th. Lucas Wyatt, the lone senior on the roster, finished 69th.

With the top-four golfers all coming back next year, Holmes says it was a fantastic day for the future of Bruin golf.

We will have more on Wasemiller’s state-runner-up and the Bruin’s third place finish over the next week.
