It was a much-needed win for Bartlesville High football in a crucial District matchup at Putnam City North.

The Bruins outlasted the Panthers 42-28 on Thursday night in Oklahoma City.

BHS had its run game reemerge, as senior Sutton Williams ran for nearly 80-yards and three scores. Most of them coming out of a Wildcat formation.

It was Williams who scored with the minutes winding down in the fourth quarter to put the icing on the cake of the Bruin win.

Bartlesville outscored the Panthers 21-7 in the second half, as the Bruins turned up the heat defensively. Aside from one drive, Bartlesville stymied the Panthers with negative plays. BHS also turned over PC North three times, which was the same number of turnovers forced for the entire season prior to Thursday.

It was a fast-start that set the tone. BHS recovered an onside kick to begin the game, three plays later it was a trick play to Harrison Ketchum that gave Bartlesville its first lead of the game.

Despite the two-touchdown win, Bartlesville squandered a few other chances.

Three possessions with the game tied at 21 the Bruins had drives fizzle out inside the Panther 35. Each time the Bruin defense stepped up with a stop.

Bartlesville improves to 1-6 overall, but more importantly 1-3 in District play.

BHS hosts Ponca City for the ConocoPhillips Bowl on Friday, Oct. 24.
