Dewey track and field qualified 11 athletes for the 3A state meet that runs Friday and Saturday, one of the highest number of athletes in program history.

At regionals in Chisholm last weekend, both Bulldogger teams combined for eight regional championships. Dewey was led by Camrin Jones who won three of those golds on her own. Jones finished first in high jump, long jump and the 300-meter hurdles.

Head coach Daniel Close says she was the star of the day, and talks about some other athletes who stood out at regionals that will return to the state meet.

Along with a handful of impactful athletes that will make their return to the state meet this weekend, Dewey also qualified a few first-timers to the state meet. Tra Hicks, Cadyn Artherton and Wyatt Templeton will head to their first state meet on Friday.

Close talks about their journey after just missing out on state a year ago, and the return of Chanley Herren to the 100-meter hurdles this weekend.

The 3A state track and field meet takes place at Catoosa High School Friday and Saturday.
