Oologah’s basketball teams split a Tuesday night doubleheader against Catoosa, with the boys falling 81-68 and the girls winning 48-30. Catoosa’s boys team is ranked No. 8 in the state.

Boys coach Caleb Branscum said his team “fought hard all game and never quit,” noting that the Mustangs were able to win two of the four quarters but struggled in the third. “Catoosa is very good. They can all shoot the lights out,” Branscum said. Looking ahead to the Pryor tournament, he added, “There are some good teams in there, but there are three or four different teams that could go win it. Very competitive and evenly matched for the most part all the way through.”

Lady Mustangs coach Clif Warford said the girls started slowly but picked up defensively in the second quarter, holding Catoosa scoreless and taking the lead. “Came out on fire in the third quarter and hit five 3’s,” he said. “When we hook up defensively it leads to transition opportunities and we thrive on those.”

Both teams will travel to Pryor on Wednesday to open the Pryor tournament, which has not been postponed despite forecasts of a winter storm in the area.
