The Pawhuska Huskies escaped Newkirk with an overtime win on Friday night, while the Lady Huskies comeback attempt came up short.

For the boys, they outscored Newkirk 8-0 during the overtime period to get a 64-56 win. One of those big baskets came from Darien West to put the team up four with 90 seconds left.

Pawhuska held a 37-18 halftime lead, but that was quickly erased in the third quarter. It took six minutes for Pawhuska to score a point in the second half and an 11-0 run put the Tigers right back in it. While Newkirk never took the lead, the tie came with five seconds left on a three pointer.

West led the way, finishing with 17 points. Pawhuska improved to 12-9 on the year with the win.

The Lady Huskies put up a valiant effort in a comeback attempt that fell short, as they fell 51-44.

Pawhuska trailed by 13 in the third quarter. They fought back to trim the deficit to two on a couple of occasions, but were unable to get over the hump.

Inside the final two minutes, this play from Brooklyn Miles gave Pawhuska an opportunity to trim the lead to three.

Miles went on to miss the ensuing free throw, so the Newkirk lead stood at four. Despite the free throw miss, Miles led the way for Pawhuska, scoring 35 points and added 13 rebounds. The Lady Huskies fall to 17-3 on the year.

Pawhuska will play at Grove next Friday.
