South Coffeyville Extends Win Streak, Eyes Bluejacket in Homecoming Showdown Moved to Thursday

The South Coffeyville Lions are finding their rhythm at the perfect time. Coming off their most dominant win of the season , a 44-12 rout over Cornerstone Christian, the Lions have now won three straight and climbed above .500 with a 4-3 record.

Head coach Rich Geisen said the team’s recent surge comes down to cutting down on mistakes and playing more balanced football. “Our offense is finally coming together,” Geisen said. “We’ve cleaned up the turnovers, established a solid running game, and that’s opened up the passing attack. We had two touchdown passes Friday night, and that’s exactly how our offense wants to operate.”

The defense has been just as sharp. South Coffeyville picked off two passes, one each by Langston Akers and Jace Keys, and added a defensive score when Gabe Thorne scooped up a fumble and ran it back for a touchdown. “The defense has been strong all year,” Geisen said. “They’ve kept us in games, and now that the offense is helping them out, everything’s clicking.”

While the Lions have momentum on their side, this week’s challenge comes from Bluejacket, another 4-3 team riding its own hot streak after a 46-0 shutout win over Billings. The two teams will clash in a crucial district matchup that could have playoff implications, and it’s also South Coffeyville’s Homecoming game.

Originally slated for Friday, the game has been moved to Thursday night at 7 p.m. due to forecasts calling for heavy rain and storms. Geisen said the short week means the Lions are making quick adjustments in practice.
“On a short week, we have to be smart,” he said. “Monday and Tuesday are our hard days, and Wednesday’s usually lighter, but we’re keeping the tempo up today. There’s still stuff we need to polish as we finish district play.”
Geisen expects an exciting matchup between two evenly matched teams. “Bluejacket’s very talented, they’ve got some good players and they’re well-coached,” he said. “We scrimmaged them in the spring and they looked good then too. It’s going to be a great game.”

With a three-game winning streak, home-field advantage, and a fired-up Homecoming crowd, South Coffeyville will look to keep its momentum rolling — and bring home another victory under the Thursday night lights.
