Officials Respond to Weekend Ammonia Leak in Coffeyville

Emergency personnel responded to an apparent ammonia leak over the weekend at the Coffeyville Resources nitrogen plant in Kansas.
The incident was reported Saturday just after 4 p.m. According to initial reports, at least 15 people were exposed and are receiving medical attention. Sirens sounded at the plant earlier Saturday afternoon, and employees staged at entrances.
EMS units from Coffeyville in addition to Independence, Caney, Tyro and Cherryvale were called to assist at the scene. A medical team from Coffeyville Regional Medical Center also responded.
In addition to CRMC, patients were transported to Independence and other area hospitals.
