OESC Touts Technology Improvements to Better Serve Users

The Oklahoma Employment Security Commission (OSEC) has been busy upgrading its technology to better serve employers and workers in Oklahoma.

Appearing on COMMUNITY CONNECTION, Trae Rahill with OESC said, "One improvement in particular is a new employer portal that modernizes the way businesses do business with the state, paying unemployment taxes, receiving information on claims, and how to connect with workforce resources in their areas."

Rahill said, "When I got to the agency about three years ago, our systems were 35- and 40-year-old systems. And so processing claims and getting data out of those systems to see how well are we doing, and how long does it take? Are people falling out of the process? Are they looking for more information and not finding it? Those were all things we were really interested in, but we couldn't get answers to those questions in our old systems. So we've just kind of, one by one, modernized all of those systems." He added, "We're not through it yet. We've gotten about 45 different releases off the ground in about the last 15 months."

Trae explained that every employer in the state, by law, has to do business with OESC.  He said, "if they can't do that in a mobile-friendly way, if they can't do it from different devices, if they're having to log into several different systems to try and find simple answers, it just makes their job a lot tougher. So, we figured if we could streamline those things and keep it easy on them, then they could spend their time doing the things that are most important for their businesses instead of  working just to be compliant with our stuff."

OESC replaced the fraud detection and prevention tools a couple of years ago. Rahill said, "The fraud tool is actually the number one fraud tool in the country. We have not a single claim that makes its way to our system without going through that fraud tool. A claim can't even be filed before beating that technology, that software. He added, "The U.S. Department of Labor, who funds our programs, has now adopted our fraud process as a standard that they're going to try and get implemented in other states."

Rahill the agency also helps with hiring events and assists with veterans seeking work. More information can be found at www.oesc.gov
