Bartlesville High baseball fell in game one of a two-game District set on Monday night against Enid. BHS will go for the series split in Enid on Tuesday.

Bartlesville fell to the Plainsmen 9-5 at Bill Doenges Memorial Stadium.

BHS couldn’t overcome a poor start. Enid led 6-0 after the first two frames. Bartlesville won the final five innings, 5-3, but the early Plainsmen runs gave Enid the win.

The Plainsmen punished Bruin pitching to the tune of 14 hits, including seven over the first two frames.

Bartlesville got on the board in the third, on this Barrett Merciez double that gave BHS some life.

Bruin underclassmen and reliever DJ Thornton kept Bartlesville in the game. He allowed only three runs over the final five frames to keep BHS within striking distance.

Down five in the seventh, this bases loaded single from Gavin Thomas gave the Bruins some hope late.

Bartlesville also squandered some opportunities offensively. BHS left seven guys on base over the final four frames and hit into three double-plays.

Game two of the series on Tuesday night from Enid at 5:00.
