Bartlesville High boys’ and girls’ basketball started off a busy week with another split on Monday night, as the stretch run of high school basketball is here.

BHS girls won over Muskogee, while the Bruin guys lost another heartbreaker to Ponca City.

Lady Bruins ended with a 48-31 victory over the Roughers.

It was not always that easy. Bartlesville had near a 10-point lead throughout the game, but a Muskogee run to start the fourth quarter cut the BHS advantage to four.

Bartlesville (11-8) would reel off a quick 7-0 run back the right direction to take command of the game. Kennedy Nubel was in double-figures for the second straight contest.

This three-pointer was a big part of the Bruin run.

Emma Zimmerman with 11 and Mikka Chambers with 18 were also in double-figures. BHS girls have won seven of eight and are 11-8 on the season.

Meanwhile the Bruin guys fell to Ponca City 46-44. It was a back-and-forth game, but Ponca had control through most of the 32 minutes.

Bartlesville only led once. Early in the fourth quarter sophomore Trae Collins stepped up with a big shot to give the Bruins some juice.

Ponca City would answer with a run to take the lead back for good within the next minute. Collins finished with a career-high 18. No other Bruins were in double-figures. BHS (3-16) had the ball down three in the final seconds, but a turnover led to the Wildcat win.

Both BHS teams right back at it on Tuesday at Edmond Memorial for a District double-header.
