Bruin Baseball Falls to Deer Creek

Bartlesville High baseball again came close but could not snap its District losing skid against a good Deer Creek club on Tuesday night.

Antlers topped BHS 9-5 at Bill Doenges Memorial Stadium.

It was death by a thousand paper cuts, as Deer Creek got 13 base hits with 12 of them singles over the first five innings to pull ahead of the Bruins. Four in the fourth inning three in the fifth turned the game on its head.

Bartlesville led 3-2 early. The Bruins down 2-0 in the second tied things up on a timely hit from Luke Massey.

Just as BHS has done all season, with its back against the wall it never went away. Trailing by six in the fifth Bartlesville kept putting the ball in play and getting close.

Deer Creek committed three errors in the fifth to help the Bruin cause.

Sam Marcella had the best day of any BHS player. The senior had two hits, both doubles, then threw 2.1 scoreless and hitless innings in relief.

Bartlesville drops to 10-12 on the year. BHS is off today and will be back at it this weekend in Pryor for a Festival tournament.
