Dewey Sweeps First Night of District Hoops

The Dewey Bulldoggers were in Catoosa Thursday night for the opening round of 4A Districts. Both Bulldogger teams were in precarious situations to where they had to win the opening district game to make it to the Friday night matchup.

Both teams would pull off that feat, as the girls won their game first against Catoosa, 36-16, and the guys got their win in much more dramatic fashion, 43-41.
For the guys, they led the majority of the first half in a low scoring affair, Dewey took a 22-18 lead to the halftime break.

Vinita would fire back offensively in the third quarter and retake the lead after a tough third period offensively for the Bulldoggers. Vinita led 35-30 heading into the final frame.

Dewey would figure things out offensively, and freshman Austin Eastman knocked down a huge three late in the game to bring Dewey back to within two points.

This one went down to the final seconds as Vinita was able to tie the game with 16.2 seconds left at 41-41. Jace Williams took the ball for Dewey out of the timeout, and the rest was history.  Here is Williams tough floater to give Dewey the win.

2.6 seconds would be added on though for Vinita but they could not hit a shot at the buzzer. Both Bulldogger squads move onto the District title game on Friday night.

The girls will play first at 6 pm against the Vinita Lady Hornets, and the guys will take on the Catoosa Indians at 7:30 pm in a game we will have for you on KWON AM 1400 FM 93.3 and 95.1
