Masters Hangover Hits the Local Fairways

Just like clockwork, The Masters wraps up and suddenly everyone remembers they own golf clubs. According to Boots Hollow Golf Club Director of Golf Dee Roadman, the post-Masters glow brings a noticeable bump in traffic from casual players and first-timers alike. What inspires confidence more than watching the best players in the world make it look easy on TV? For the next few weeks, the average golfer is convinced this is the year their slice magically disappears.

Roadman says the tournament acts as an unofficial kickoff to the season, drawing out familiar faces who haven’t been seen since last fall, along with newcomers ready to test their patience and hand-eye coordination. Of course, this is Oklahoma, where April weather behaves like it’s got a personal vendetta against outdoor plans. So while interest spikes, whether anyone actually gets to play depends on if the skies cooperate or if golfers are willing to brave wind, drizzle, and the occasional existential crisis on the back nine.

To cash in on the annual surge of optimism, Boots Hollow offers twilight rates after 3 p.m., giving the after-work crowd a discounted chance to chase daylight and dignity. It’s a smart move, catering to those who watch the Masters, feel inspired, and then realize they still have a full-time job. Still, as Roadman puts it, the tournament gets everyone’s “juice flowing," which is a polite way of saying thousands of golfers are about to dust off their clubs, head to the course, and relearn some very humbling lessons in the sand.
