Nowata Football Leaning on Defensive Talent

The Nowata Ironmen football team is hoping for a resurgence in 2021. To do so the Ironmen can lean on strong core of returners of the defensive side of the ball. The overall numbers may not reflect how well Dagan West, Riley Ammerman and Jake Lanzisera played in the 2020 fall. Nowata head coach Graham Snelding talks about Nowata’s top players on defense.
That trio created some havoc on defense with the ability to deliver bone-crunching hits. The Ironmen forced and recovered seven fumbles in the nine-game season. Nowata’s ability to create turnovers was largely overshadowed by its inability to make defensive stops.
The Ironmen have a contingency of returning starters in the secondary as well. Emmett Sells and Peyton Trotter will hold down two safety spots. Eli and Zak Savala will make an impact at corner.
The Ironmen have strong younger core that includes a larger than average freshman class. Snelding says some of those young guys will see the field on merit and not just out of necessity.
Snelding says the Ironmen are expecting anywhere 35-40 players to report to fall camp on August 9. Nowata opens the season at Oklahoma Union on August 27.
