Friday night the Nowata Ironmen did battle at home for senior night as they played host to the Afton Eagles. We’ll start on the guys side as it was not lacking in the drama department. The Ironmen would edge out the Eagles by three in overtime to grab the win, 66-63.

The Ironmen jumped out to a near 20-point lead in the first half, but the Eagles closed the deficit quickly and made it a one-point game heading into the fourth quarter at 45-44. The Eagles would do enough to tie it up at 54-all to send it to overtime.

The extra period was filled with big moments, including senior Michael Prince for Nowata who scored a career-high 11-points.

Coming into the game, Prince had only hit four three-pointers all season. Against the Eagles though, he made three, including this huge one to start a quick 5-0 run for the Ironmen in overtime.

That steal for and bucket for Kaleb Bashfordalso gave him over 900 career points.

Kaleb Bashford again was the hero for Nowata, leading all scorers with 29 points and scoring 5 of the 11 overtime points. Prince though, came up huge again, as he found an open lane to give Nowata a bigger lead in the free period and to reach double figures the first time in his career.

The Ironmen would hold on to grab their ninth win of the season. Here is Head Coach Derick Ott’s full interview after the game.

The girls lost the opener of the evening, as the Lady Eagles beat Nowata, 47-25. Ironmen are next at Chelsea on Tuesday to wrap the regular season before they head to Colcord Feb. 16th for Districts.
