Patriot Athlete of the Week: Marissa Chick
It is another Monday, which means it is time for another Patriot Family of Autos Area Athlete of the Week – powered by Tri County Tech.
This week we head to northern Nowata County, for South Coffeyville girls’ basketball standout Marissa Chick.
Chick is one of two seniors on this year’s Lion’s basketball team trying to replicate last season’s success. So far so good for South Town, as the girls’ basketball team is 12-6 getting ready to enter postseason play in Class B this weekend.
Chick, who is the Lion’s center, talks about how the season has gone to this point.
South Coffeyville went 25-2 a season ago, with the Lions starting out the year at 24-0. Chick says the goal again is to get back to the Area Tournament or perhaps further. Last season the Lion’s run ended in the Area Consolation Finals with a loss to Calvin.
Chick has always lived in Oklahoma but hopes to study environmental science somewhere in the Pacific Northwest. She is the youngest of three siblings.
Chick says her mom played basketball when she was younger, and even though she did not get her parent’s height, she says they influenced her playing sports.
