The Washington County School Supply Drive, known for helping students and teachers prepare for the school year, is wrapping up registration for its annual Pack the Backpacks program. Organizers announced the final day to apply is Tuesday, July 15.

The program provides free school supplies to local students from Head Start through 12th grade whose families are facing financial hardship. Applications in English and Spanish are available at www.packthebackpacks.org.

President Debbie Laroche and Vice President Debbie Thoreson recently appeared on Community Connection to share updates and encourage volunteers to sign up via the website or Facebook page.

Volunteer packing events will be held at St. Luke’s Episcopal Church in downtown Bartlesville starting Thursday, July 31 from 6–8 p.m., with additional sessions on Friday (9 a.m.–12 p.m. and 1:30–3:30 p.m.) and a final push on Saturday (9 a.m.–12 p.m.).

Families are encouraged to volunteer together, with kids welcome to help fill backpacks. “It becomes a tradition,” Thoreson said. “People move away and still come back just to help.”

Supporters can also help by dining at Freddy’s on July 23 from 5–9 p.m. Mention the Washington County School Supply Drive, and 15% of sales will benefit the cause.
