Bullpups Close Regular Season at Riverton

The Caney Valley Bullpups will wrap up the regular season on the road at Riverton on Friday, following a narrow 3-point loss to Oklahoma state-ranked Dewey on senior night. Caney Valley trailed by one point with 10 seconds remaining but could not force overtime. Head coach Matt Washburn said the Bullpups played strong in the first and fourth quarters but struggled during the middle stretches. He credited his team for battling back late and staying competitive to the final seconds.

Washburn said Riverton presents a similar challenge, featuring multiple perimeter shooters and strong ball movement. He said the Bullpups’ focus will be on defending the arc, limiting turnovers and pushing the tempo in transition. Washburn added the team has reviewed film and is concentrating on finishing the regular season strong rather than looking ahead to the postseason.

Caney Valley enters the matchup with a strong chance to host a first-round playoff game and has built momentum with several road wins late in the season. The regular-season finale will be played in Riverton, with the girls game tipping off at 6 p.m. and the boys at 7:30 p.m.
