Nowata Hoops Gets Split in Friday Regionals

The Nowata Ironmen and Lady Ironmen did battle on Friday in 2A Regional elimination contests and came away with a split result. On the girls side, their season comes to an end as they fell to the Afton Lady Eagles, 48-27.

On the guys side, it would be a near wire-to-wire lead that led to a victory over the Afton guys, 50-38.  Afton took a small 17-14 lead in the second quarter before Nowata would go on a run that would put them up for good.

Nowata closed the first half on a 7-0 run to take a 21-17 lead into the halftime break.

Kaleb Bashford came out scorching hot in the third quarter as he scored 12 of his game high 25-points in the periodto help extend the Ironmen lead. Bashford knocked down back-to-back three’s to extend the Ironmen lead in the third.

Nowata would use a 15-point third quarter to push their lead to 36-24 at the end of the third quarter before closing things out in the fourth quarter. 

One big story line as well was Kaleb Bashford, who came in to the game with 998 career points. Bashford got the bucket he needed to get to 1,000 points early in the first quarter and now sits at 1,023 career points. Here is Bashford on reaching that mark. - Listen to full interview HERE.

Chelo Prince would join Bashford in double figures with 10 in his own right to help lead the charge for Nowata to help the Ironmen clinch a spot in the regional consolation championship game.
