Patriot Athlete of the Week: Kyla Overton
It is another Monday and we have another Patriot Auto Group Area Athlete of the Week, powered by Tri County Tech.
This week, we head up north to Dewey and feature Lady Bulldogger Kyla Overton.
Overton is in her senior season at Dewey. She plays softball and competes in the shot put and discus for the track and field team. Overton also competed with the powerlifting team and won a state championship in her division this season.
Overton was one of Dewey's top hitters on the softball field this past fall. She finished with a batting average of .550 with 15 homeruns and 55 RBIs. Dewey finished this past softball season 29-9 under first year head coach Riley Allen. Overton says it was her best season.
Overton will continue her softball career at the University of Central Arkansas. The Sugar Bears are currently 21-12 this spring. Overton talks about what drew her to UCA.
She plans on studying exercise physiology in college.
Dewey's track and field season starts on Tuesday. Last season, Overton finished third at the 3A state meet in the shot put and sixth in the discus. Overton talks about the bond with her teammates and the expectations for the upcoming season.
