The South Coffeyville Lions are gearing up for one of their biggest matchups of the season as they prepare to take on rival Copan in the 100.1 KYFM Game of the Week. Head coach Rich Giesen says his team is ready to bounce back after a hard-fought 14-8 loss to Foyil last week, a game that came down to a few costly penalties and a special teams return touchdown. .

Despite the setback, Giesen emphasized that his players continue to make steady improvements each week.

Defense has been a major bright spot for South Coffeyville this season, with the Lions giving up just one offensive touchdown against Foyil. Giesen praised his squad for limiting opponents’ scoring opportunities, saying the focus now is on eliminating turnovers and finishing drives on offense. With Copan bringing a high-powered attack under coach Camber, the Lions know the key will be limiting big plays and controlling the ball on the ground to keep the Hornets’ offense off the field.

This week’s showdown also marks South Coffeyville’s final non-district game before the push toward the playoffs. With just 19 players on the roster, staying healthy and conditioned remains a top priority for Giesen and his staff. Fortunately, the Lions have avoided major injuries so far, and the team’s goal of competing for a district championship remains in full view. Kickoff is set for 7 p.m. Friday night in Copan, with pregame coverage beginning at 6:45 on 100.1 KYFM, K1TV.com, or the K1TV app.
