Bartlesville High to Close Off-Campus Lunches Next Year

The Bartlesville High School will have closed campus lunches starting next school year. Bartlesville Public School's Executive Director of Communications Granger Meador says there are several reasons Site Principal LaDonna Chancellor made the decision to permanently close campus lunches for the foreseeable future.

Improvements in student achievement was on reason for the closure of next year's off-campus lunches. BHS has a common time slot called an advisory period that freshmen and sophomores attend, but juniors and seniors have the option to go off-campus for lunch or stay for a tutorial period. Meador says those students that should stay for the tutorial period choose to go off-campus instead. He says closing classes puts all grades under one advisory period.

Other reasons to close off-campus lunch include but are not limited to: student safety and concerns that students may engage in inappropriate behaviors off campus, student participation in clubs and activities which would affect student achievement, and student attendance would approve.

Meador did say Bartlesville High School may give exceptions for students to have off-campus lunch if those students have opportunities for certain events and activities. He says the details are still in the works with off-campus lunch as Principal Chancellor keeps talking with parents and students about off-campus lunch.

Meador says BHS looks forward to the transition period and hopes this will improve academic achievement, engagement and participation.
