Two suspects have been arrested and charged with robbery with a weapon following an incident which occurred in the Kmart parking lot around noon on Tuesday.

At 12:15 PM, Bartlesville Police received a call from a citizen who said they were following someone they had witnessed stealing a purse from an individual in the Kmart parking lot.

When officers arrived on scene they spoke to the female victim who stated a male subject approached her as she was getting into her car and pointed a knife at her while taking her purse. The original caller followed the suspects as they drove out of the parking lot and north on Highway 75 towards Dewey Oklahoma.
Dewey Police were also notified and responded to the area of Durham and highway 75 where they observed the suspects throwing a purse out of the car window as they turned east on Durham road. The suspects then turned north into the Meadow Creek subdivision where they exited their vehicle on a dead end street. The driver was taken into custody at approximately 12:30 pm. The passenger fled on foot into a wooded area to the north.

Bartlesville Police, Dewey Police and the Washington County Sheriff’s Office spent the afternoon searching the area between Durham and 9th street east of Dewey. At approximately 3:00 pm Washington County Deputies located the second suspect running in a field near east 9th street and took him into custody.

Police arrested 25 year old Terrance Lucas Cottingham and his younger brother 22 year old Cole Bud Cottingham both Pawhuska Oklahoma residences and charged them with armed robbery. Bartlesville Police have been looking for Terrance Cottingham in connection with a string of other car burglaries where purses have been stolen from vehicles over the past three weeks.

It took a collaborative effort between our local Law Enforcement agencies and an alert citizen to apprehend these individuals. The situation was stopped before they were able to commit further crimes in our community. Even though the crime occurred in Bartlesville, the Dewey Police and the Washington County Sheriff’s office were quick to respond to assist our agency.
