Nowata Sweeps Dewey

The Nowata-Dewey basketball showdown part one belonged to both the Nowata Ironmen and Lady Ironmen basketball teams Friday night in Nowata.  Lady Ironmen won 48-46 while the Ironmen won 87-49.

In the girls game, Nowata led throughout the first half taking a 27-14 lead.  Dewey would come back early in the fourth period and took a three point lead.  Nowata struck back and came down to free throws made by Nowata's Kennedy Downing with 12 seconds left to give the Lady Ironmen their first victory of the season.  Downing led Nowata with 23 points while Mamie Tiry made three 3-pointers to finish with 13 points.  Lady Doggers were led by Addison Moll with 18 points, making four 3-pointers while Karissa Jones finished with 14 points.  Lady Doggers fall to 1-2 overall while the Lady Ironmen improve to 1-1 overall this season.

In the boys game, it was all Nowata as they used their transition game to beat the Doggers.  The Ironmen led 50-20 at halftime and won by 38 points.  Nowata's Cody Smith led with 20 points and made four 3-pointers.  Zen Callahan finished with 17 points.  Michael Velasco finished with 16 points and Dalton Carter added 12 points.  Doggers were led by Drew Miller's 12 points while Kameron Hayes added 10 points.  Dewey falls to 1-2 overall while Nowata improves to 2-0 this season.

Both Dewey teams will begin play in the Adair Tournament on Monday while both Nowata teams will begin play in the Nowata Tournament on Tuesday.
