Former Nowata County Sheriff Kenny Freeman will be bound over for formal arraignment during a Friday morning court appearance. The case will be presented to newly-elected district judge Linda Thomas.

Freeman is facing a felony embezzlement charge stemming from an October 2018 incident in which he allegedly misappropriated a donation of school supplies. It is alleged that Freeman handed out items at a booth for his campaign for re-election instead of allowing the supplies to be distributed by the schools in the county.

Several witnesses gave testimony at a preliminary hearing earlier this month. Associate District Judge Carl Gibson found probable cause that Freeman committed the felony crime of embezzlement.

Freeman is represented by Tulsa attorney Michon Hastings-Hughes. The proceedings will continue at 9 a.m. at the Nowata County Courthouse.
