Constitutional Carry Making Way in Senate

Senate Committees have been voting on House Bill 2597 this week after it was passed by the House last week. House Bill 2597 focuses on Constitutional Carry rights in Oklahoma. Bartlesville's Senator Julie Daniels said that she supported the bill this week. She says its important to hold up the Bill of Rights whenever its possible.

Daniels says there has been an arguement made that may have persuaded those that were on the fence with the issue. She says people who come into Oklahoma from another state that has Constitutional Carry are allowed to have their guns on them. That means those coming into Oklahoma hav more second amendment rights than those who actually live in the state, Daniels says.

She says people will still need to have a background check when purchasing a firearm. The mandatory cursory training, however, doesn't exist now. Even those who go out of there way to have training will always look to have more training, Daniels says.

Daniels says she felt comfortable with supporting the bill and will support it when it appears on the Senate Floor. She believes House Bill 2597 will be on Gov. Kevin Stitts desk next week.
