Aaron Peck and Dakota Blanchard with Guy Engineering presented a data collection and management system Monday that the Washington County Commissioners could use.

Geode is the system that was presented and Peck explains that it can be used to keep track of sign inventory and data sets regarding bridges and culverts the commissioners need to look over. County employees could even collect data in the field using the Collector app. The data collection can be customized the way they want it to be customized, Peck said.

Commissioner Mitch Antle said he is interested in something like this for District 1. He says that he uses bridge data frequently when people come to him with questions. All the data revolving around the 51 bridges in District 1 isn't something that Antle commits to memory so he wants something that will allow him to easily access the information when asked. Geode would allow Antle, Dunlap and Bouvier to see the data instantly on their cellphones if they chose to use the system.

A problem the commissioners saw on Monday was a maintenance piece. District 2 Commissioner Mike Bouvier also says he has been using a separate GIS data collection system that has worked for him for several years. No action was taken on the item in Monday’s Washington County Commissioners meeting. Guy Engineering will continue discussions and data collection possibilities with the commissioners.
