Dewey Man Facing Child Abuse Charge

A Dewey man was charged with a misdemeanor count of child abuse for an incident that was reported on Monday. Gerald Winn appeared at the Washington County Courthouse on Tuesday were probable cause was found.

According to an affidavit, a teacher at Dewey Elementary became suspicious of a large bruise on the leg of one of her students. The teacher advised that the bruise was the size of a frisbee. The bruise was purple, black and red in color.

The child explained that his father became angry because he was acting up. The child was concerned about his father getting in trouble and was reluctant to give details. The child stated that his father hit him with a belt. The child further stated that this was not a regular occurrence, but that his father normally yells at him.

Winn’s bond was set at $20,000. He will appear in court again on Wednesday where the state will present charges.
