Lane Opens Up Along Copan Dam

After 4 long years of work by the Corp of Engineers and the Oklahoma Department of Transportation, the Copan Dam structure repairs are complete and the roadway has been open to two lanes of traffic. The Corp of Engineers worked on the dam structure while ODOT advised to close one lane along the Copan Dam.
While the Washington County Commissioners had no hand in the work, Chairman Mitch Antle said Thursday that they had been keeping tabs on the project over the years. He said a lane closure of the dam is what made it difficult for our communities. That eliminated a route which forced them to use an alternate route that ended up just being a gravel road. Antle said he has made reparations since then to make sure there is a clear route if that sort of work ever occurs again.
Antle said hearing from ODOT that both lanes of traffic along the Copan Dam being opened feels great. People can now move freely about the dam.
