District Judge Linda Thomas has advocated for a Mental Health Court in Nowata and Washington County long before she swore into office in January. The Washington County Commissioners have worked on resolutions to create cash funds for the Washington County Mental Health Court program in recent weeks.

Chairman Mitch Antle said Monday that there have been some issues. He said there have been issues with the auditor, the Mental Health Board and the county training program.

According to Antle, the fund created last week was made in case they did not have to contract with them. He said he did not see why the Commissioners need to contract with the Department of Mental Health since they are only responsible for passing fund through. He said contracting with them would only add an obligation to the Commissioners that they do not need.

Antle said that they are making sure that they are receiving funds of which they can not allocate currently. Therefore, the Commissioners are creating a mechanism by which the money for the Washington County Mental Health program can be put into a fund.

The Commissioners approved the creation of another cash fund for the program on Monday morning.
