District 11 Representative Darrel Fincher says he is working on a bill focused on Oklahoma's Virtual Charter Academies. He said these virtual schools allow Oklahoma children to take online courses full time at the the State's expense. A challenge Fincher says the State faces is what he calls a “churn.”

He says three to four weeks into the virtual courses, students start to realize the courses are just as difficult as being in a normal classroom so they return to their school. Senate Bill 148 is supposed to help with this churn. Currently there are transition periods in the summer but there have been some concerns about transitions caused by bullying at public schools.

If your child is bullied, Fincher says you should report the bullying to the school. before the switch in schools so they can verify the bullying. Intimidation and harassment also apply in these situation. He says reporting it may be the quickest way for a switch to be made if it absolutely needs to be made.

Fincher says it does not matter if the bullying happens in one day or for several weeks. As long as the bullying is reported to the school when it is made known, it is sufficient enough for the report requirement.
