The city of Bartlesville now has five new sanitation trucks.

Public Works Director Keith Henry says the trucks are automated and work in conjunction with the City's polycart system, which was implemented several years ago. The automated system requires that some actions be taken by utility customers to ensure the trucks are able to operate as intended:

  • Place your cart on the street with the wheels against the curb, if there is one, or just off the roadway on the shoulder
  • Point the arrow on cart lid toward the center of the road
  • Leave at least five feet of clearance between each cart and from any obstacles such as parked cars, poles, mailboxes, etc., including yard waste
  • Remove your cart from the street after service

Other sanitation requirements include collection of yard waste, defined as bush, leaves, grass clippings and other yard trimmings. Yard waste is collected on the same day your cart is serviced. A few simple guidelines will help Sanitation Department crews collect your yard waste:

  • Yard waste must be at the curb by 6 a.m.
  • Place yard waste five feet from your cart(s) and away from other obstructions including gas and water meters, vehicles, mailboxes, etc.
  • Yard waste must have a green yard waste sticker attached
  • Limbs must be cut in four-foot lengths or less and placed in bundles no more than 18 inches across and less than 50 pounds in weight
  • Cardboard boxes may not be used to hold yard waste
  • Animal waste and items other than limbs, grass clippings or leaves will not be collected with yard waste
  • You may use your cart for bagged yard waste if you wish
  • Customers should review all polycart regulations

Public Works Director Keith Henry says the new trucks have video capabilities. If there is a question or concern about how your trash was handled or whether a violataton took place, a playback of the video can be used to sort our any disagreements.
