The Nowata County Commissioners heard concerns about courthouse security at Monday morning’s meeting. A letter from an employee was read aloud about a situation where she believes she was threatened and the man possibly had a weapon at the courthouse. Chairman Burke LaRue read the letter.

Right now, there is no security at the courthouse. Sheriff Jason McClain said that the county doesn’t have the budget to have a deputy man the courthouse five days a week. The courthouse does not have security cameras either

The man in question has felony convictions out of Montgomery County and pending domestic violence charges in Nowata County. District three commissioner Troy Friddle says the best course of action is to make sure courthouse employees are alert.

The man in question was not charged for his actions at the courthouse on September 16. He is slated to return to court on November 4. McClain says that the courthouse will have metal detectors active on that day.
