BPS Supt. Chuck McCauley on COVID-19 Outlook

Tom Davis
Bartlesville Public Schools Superintendent Chuck McCauley appeared Wednesday on COMMUNITY CONNECTION to talk about the COVID-19 situation as it pertains to the in-person learning and overall operations of the district.
McCauley first thanked Blair Ellis, The Bartlesville Public Schools Foundation and the entire community for their generosity and help in getting the PPE and other needed items so that the Bartlesville Public Schools could safely open on time and offer in-person learning.
Unlike many school districts around us, McCauley said the Bartlesville Public Schools are open this week and that the indicators show that after Thanksgiving break next week, Bartlesville schools will be right back with in-person learning.
Speaking of COVID-19 indicators, they show that cases are rising locally.
McCauley wants to see where the district stands after the first week back from Thanksgiving. The goal is to maintain in-person learning. However, should the district feel the need to shut down due to abesenteetism and/or staffing issues, they will start with the high school first since the students and the teachers best know how to use the remote learning system.
McCauley says the middle schools and elementary schools would stay open as much as possible under this scenario as science shows younger children as less susceptible to the virus.
