Sheriff Scott Owen asked the Washington County Board of Commissioners to surplus a 2014 Dodge Charger that was involved in a crash within Dewey city limits in December.

Sheriff Owen recalled the incident in Tuesday morning's Commissioners meeting. He said Deputy David Virden was traveling northbound when a southbound pick-up truck went left of center for unknown reasons. He said the truck then glanced off the deputy's driver's side door, causing the deputy's vehicle to spin out.

No serious injuries were reported in the accident. Sheriff Owen said Deputy Virden had been transported to the Ascension St. John Jane Phillips Medical Center in Bartlesville to be evaluated. He said the deputy returned to work the following week after getting some rest.

Sheriff Owen said the deputy and the Washington County Sheriff's Office was not at fault. He said Progressive has agreed to pay the WCSO $13,500 for the car and the equipment that received damage.

The driver and the passenger of the pick-up truck were not transported to the hospital following the accident.

Sheriff Owen said the WCSO needed the approval of the Washington County Commissioners so they could proceed with the title transfer and things of that nature.

Two red / blue light bars from the WCSO were also declared as surplus on Tuesday morning.
